Pence Says His Lawyers Are in Contact With DOJ on January 6
Several sources in the Justice Department have told me that the department has been in contact with former Vice President Mike Pence. The agency has requested that Pence provide answers to certain questions about his interactions with President Trump. The request, which could be voluntary, could be a huge step forward for the DOJ.
One of the things Pence’s lawyers are weighing is whether to comply with the request. A spokesperson for Pence has declined to comment. However, the New York Times reported that Pence is open to considering the request.
The most important question may be what exactly the DOJ is hoping to get from Pence. The agency wants to know the details of conversations between Pence and Trump and whether Pence was involved in the overturning of the 2020 election results. It is possible that Pence could be the deciding factor in whether or not President Trump is charged with crimes.
A recent book published by Pence titled So Help Me God, includes passages describing his interactions with Trump. These include the use of a “Russia-hoax” to help debunk claims that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia. The book also discusses Pence’s efforts to distance himself from Trump and to help Republican voters.
Aside from his upcoming book, Vice President Mike Pence’s latest move may be his decision to testify before a congressional committee. Pence has been a strong critic of Trump and has been critical of events surrounding the insurrection.
