Want To Achieve More and Increase Your Productivity? Try This at Night
by Peggy Sealfon
In our fast-paced world where we constantly strive to achieve more, it’s essential to optimize our productivity to accomplish our goals. Many businesspeople focus on productivity during the day, but what about the untapped potential of the nighttime hours?
Sleep is a vital aspect of your overall well-being so getting enough quality sleep can profoundly affect your daytime productivity. Therefore, it’s only logical that you can leverage the night to set yourself up for a successful tomorrow by developing a consistent pre-sleep routine. Doing so can transform your life.
Here are six simple recommendations to establish a highly beneficial pre-sleep routine:
- Mindful Reflection: Begin by reviewing your day. This doesn’t mean obsessing over every detail, but rather taking a few moments to appreciate your achievements, recognize areas where you can improve, and set intentions for the next day. This mindfulness exercise can help you gain clarity and a sense of purpose.
- Digital Detox: Blue light emitted by screens interferes with your circadian rhythm which makes falling asleep much more difficult. So, disconnect from all electronic devices, ideally an hour or more before bed to allow your mind to unwind.
- Relaxation Techniques: Engage in relaxation practices to calm your nervous system and reduce stress. Use deep breathing, meditation, or gentle stretches. I like to put my legs up at a 90-degree angle against a wall for 10 minutes of quiet time. This yogic pose stimulates the relaxation response in mind and body, releases tension, and maintains balance. It can also influence the body’s self-healing ability. It brings me into a blissfully peaceful state of mind and has become a helpful signal to my mind and body that sleep time is approaching!
- Journaling: Write your thoughts and ideas prior to bed to declutter your mind. Jot down tasks for the next day, express gratitude, or simply release lingering worries. This helps to provide an outlet to let go of potential worries that swirl around in your mind and keep you awake. This can provide a sense of closure and free up mental space.
- Restful Environment: Ensure your bedroom is dark, cool, and free of noise. Use quality bedding so your sleeping environment is as comfortable and inviting as possible.
- Consistency: Going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, even on weekends, can regulate your body’s internal clock. By developing a consistent sleep schedule, you’ll ensure that you feel more energized and productive during the day.
By embracing a regular pre-sleep routine, you can harness the power of the night to increase your daily productivity. I’ve seen countless individuals transform their lives with this simple yet profound approach. It’s not about adding more to your daily schedule; it’s about making the most of the hours you already have.
As you incorporate these practices into your nightly routine, you’ll notice that your days become more productive, energized, and fulfilling. Be patient with yourself as you adapt to this new routine. Over time, you’ll find that the benefits will ripple through every aspect of your life helping you achieve your goals and dreams with clarity and grace!!!
